Çalık Holding Chairman Ahmet Çalık attended the RE360 Real Estate Summit, which brought together leaders of the real estate world. Held on 5-6 December 2017, the summit tackled the issues in the industry’s agenda while industry leaders that attended various panels shared their experiences.

Çalık Holding Chairman Ahmet Çalık as well as Nef Chief Executive Officer Erden Timur, Fiba Holding Board Member Murat Özyeğin, and Artaş İnşaat Board Chairman Süleyman Çetinsaya attended the panel entitled “How do Real Estate Opinion Leaders see 2017? What do they expect from 2018?” moderated by JTT Turkey Country President and Alkaş Chairman Avni Alkaş organized on the first day of the RE360 Summit.

Speaking at the panel, Ahmet Çalık underlined the significant importance of the construction industry thanks to added value and employment opportunities it offers across all countries, and also pointed out that it is seen as a “leading industry” due to its relation with more than 200 sub-sectors covering many fields ranging from engineering to finance, architecture to arts, design to innovation. Ahmet Çalık continued; “Construction industry has been one of Turkey’s foremost tools of growth in the 21st century. The industry has become a universal power. Globally, the market value of the construction industry is around USD 9.5 trillion. Turkish firms account for 4.6 percent of this value.”

Çalık also evaluated the development of the domestic construction industry in 2017; noting that the industry achieved growth above the GDP and he continued: “In 2017, the industry got over its stagnation thanks to the government decision about the incentives and tax concessions and also cuts. In 2018, the most important indicator to affect the industry will be how the office and housing stock will be consumed and the levels of investments depending on this consumption. Project developers and investors will focus on more exclusive projects that are more suitable for technological transformation, meeting tenant-friendly conditions, taking into account the sharing economy and m2 demand level is at reasonable level.

Ahmet Çalık noted that projects that can implement the technological transformation, read the supply/demand balance well, keep up with the times, boast renewed infrastructures and offer tenant-friendly practices would stand out. Çalık then explained their targets for the Taksim 360 project which brings modern living with our long-established past as: “We aimed to take our guests to a journey on the historic streets of Tarlabaşı while blending historic renewal and technological transformation. In this context, we believe that it will be a breath of fresh air for the region with its tenant-friendly practices, renewed Beyoğlu infrastructure, and professionally managed shopping streets.”
