“My First Job Entrepreneurship” competition has finalized

A total of 332 projects competed in two separate categories at the “My First Job Entrepreneurship” competition, jointly organized by YTU TTO and Çalık Holding. The top three projects in the “New Enterprises” category won the opportunity to receive training at Starcamp, the only Turkish Incubation Center in the Silicon Valley.

Organized jointly by Çalık Holding and Yıldız Technical University Technology Transfer Office with a view to support the entrepreneur ecosystem in Turkey, “My First Job Entrepreneurship” competition’s final round was held at the Yıldız Technical University Convention and Culture Center.

Speaking at the event, Yıldız Technical University Rector Prof. Bahri Şahin expressed his happiness to be present at the final ceremony of the “My First Job Entrepreneurship” competition organized in collaboration with Çalık Holding and thanked Çalık Holding management for their support to entrepreneurship. “As YTU, we value such competitions and invite our existing entrepreneurs to support Yıldız TechnoPark, one of the largest technoparks in Turkey, which operates as a part of our university. We want to combine our capabilities with the industry and clear the way for new technologies that would benefit our country.”

Also speaking at the event, Ahmet Yıldırım, President of the Strategy and Financial Affairs Group, underlined the significant entrepreneurial potential in Turkey and said: “We believe that entrepreneurship plays a very important role in accelerating Turkey’s transformation towards a competitive country that produces and generates value. Entrepreneurialism stands out as a major element for sustainable economic development in a rapidly changing world also thanks to the development of technology. At Çalık Holding, we support the development of an entrepreneurship ecosystem in our country. It is with this approach that we will continue to organize the ‘My First job Entrepreneurship’ competition in the coming years as well.”

At the third edition of the My First job Entrepreneurship competition, assessments were made under two categories including “New Enterprises” and “New Ideas” for the first time. The competition’s panel of judges included Ahmet Yıldırım, President of the Strategy and Financial Affairs Group; Prof. Mesut Güner, Yıldız TechnoPark General Manager; Prof. Ahmet Ekerim, Consultant, YTÜ TTO University-Industry Collaboration Unit; Didem Altop, Founder and Secretary General, Endeavor Turkey; Yiğit Kulabaş, Founder and President, Redesignbiz; and Asst. Prof. Zeynep Işık, Board Member, Starcamp.

Top three projects awarded with training at Starcamp in the Silicon Valley
Winners of the “My First job Entrepreneurship” 2017 competition won awards in two separate categories. Top three contestants in the “New Enterprises” category won cash prizes and office opportunities at the YTU Incubator as well as the opportunity to attend the training program at Starcamp, the only Turkish Incubation Center in the Silicon Valley. Top three contestants in the “New Ideas” category won cash prizes and office opportunity at the YTU Pre-Incubation.

At the My First job Entrepreneurship contest, Buse Berber Örçen and Hande Özkan won the first prize with the “Nanomik” project in the “New Enterprises”, followed by Soner Alayurt with the project “Plastic Raw Material Production with “Waste and Wastage Carpet”, and Şule Başarslan with the “Household Sperm Test Device” project. In the “New Ideas” category, the first prize went to Ömer Barışkan Yasan with the “Automated Tire Pressure Control and Adjustment System” project, followed by Şenol Özkısa with the “CRP for Composite Applications” projects and Duygu Kırkık with the “Congenital Heart Diseases Scanning Kit” project.

Organized jointly by Çalık Holding and YTÜ TTO, “My First job Entrepreneurship 2017” contest aims to help spread a culture of entrepreneurialism in our country, discover visionary young entrepreneurs, strengthen the entrepreneurialism ecosystem, allow for the commercialization of innovative products and ideas, and encourage them to open to international markets.
